IS ELECTROLYSIS SOMETHING NEW?

Definitely not.  Electrolysis was first used by Dr Charles E Michel in 1875 to remove ingrown eyelashes.  Many advances have been made in the field since then and electrolysis has proven its effectiveness over more than 140 years.

IS IT SAFE TO USE ELECTROLYSIS TO REMOVE HAIR FROM A MOLE?

Absolutely, however, a note of approval is required from your doctor to ensure there aren't any problems with the mole prior to electrolysis treatment.

HOW LONG WILL TREATMENTS TAKE AND HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

This really depends on the individual.  There are many variables involved.

     1.  Thickness and amount of hair present.

     2.  Were there any temporary hair removal methods                    (tweezing, waxing, threading,etc) used?

     3.  Are there any hormone issues influencing the growth of hair? Some hormone influences can include certain medications, puberty, pregnancy, menopause, polycystic ovarian syndrome, other hormone inbalances, etc.

     4.  Skin tolerance. The more the skin can tolerate, the higher the current can be turned.

     5.  Pain tolerance. The more the client can tolerate, the higher the current can be turned and the faster the treatment will go.

     6.  Finally, the more consistent the client is the more effective the treatment will be.  

This many variables make it almost impossible to estimate a precise cost and duration.

WHAT CAUSES EXCESSIVE HAIR GROWTH?

Many different reasons. Excessive hair growth can be a natural occurance caused by heredity or genetics.  It can be caused by a hormonal influence or imbalance. It can be the result of certain medications or illnesses. Or it can occur as a result of temporary hair removal methods that actually stimulate hair growth.

HOW DOES ELECTROLYSIS REMOVE HAIR?

The electrologist insert a hair-fine, surgical wire(called a filament) into the natural opening of the hair follicle and releases a mild current.  This acts to destroy the root (papilla) at the base of the hair. Once the hair is treated, it is released from the follicle with a pair of forceps.

DOES ELECTROLYSIS HURT?

Each individual experiences electrolysis differently.  While some people find it quite uncomfortable; others can sleep during the treatment. The settings are set according to each individual's tolerance. Suggestions can be made by your electrologist on how to minimize any discomfort you feel.

WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT HEAVY GROWTH OF HAIR BETWEEN TREATMENTS?

It is important not to tweeze hair between treatments.  A hair is what marks an active follicle for your electrologist. This is how she knows which follicles to disable. Tweezing and other depilatories with interfere with the treatment. It is perfectly fine to trim the hairs that bother you between treatments.  Your electrologist will ask you to leave enough length to provide a guide into the follicle for an accurate insertion.

• gives clear and detailed explanations concerning the hair phases, electroepilation, etc.
• uses disposable,single use probes, wears gloves and mask if necessary
• works with a comfortable, accurate and effective epilator using the latest technology
• adapts her technique, programs and parameters according to the treated area and the comfort of her client
• is accurate and very concentrated during insertions
• is attentive to the needs of her clientele
• gives her clients tips on how to enhance the effectiveness and comfort of treatments (regular appointments, exfoliation, moisturizing, etc)
• informs her client of safety measures to follow and possible reactions that may occur after treatment
• offers advice concerning post-epilatory products to use as well as a detailed, custom prescription
• is honest and realistic in planning treatment sessions
• keeps track of the progression of treatment
• rapidly finds the cause if results are not satisfactory
• makes client satisfaction her priority! 

CAN ELECTROLYSIS BE DONE ON ANY PART OF THE BODY?

Everywhere except inside the ears and inside the nose.

IS ELECTROLYSIS REALLY PERMANENT?

Yes.  I personally, have enjoyed the benefits of living "free from hair" for over 20 years.  In the hands of a well-qualified professional electrologist, you will also enjoy permanent results. It is important to follow the instructions of your electrologist for optimal results. Electrolysis is FDA approved as permanent hair removal. IS ELECTROLYSIS SAFE?

Absolutely, in the hands of a well qualified practitioner.  Your skin will look clean, clear and free from hair,with no visible trace of electrolysis.  At Body Magic Electrolysis, strictly disposable filaments are used. Nitrile gloves are used.  Forceps and probe tips are cleaned then sterilized in and autoclave. Zeiss magnifying lenses are used for accurate insertions.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT METHODS OF ELECTROLYSIS?

Electrolysis is also known as the galvanic method of hair removal.  This was the first form of permanent hair removal invented which is the reason all methods are now referred to as electrolysis.   This method uses a galvanic current to cause a chemical reaction of the natural salty moisture in your skin to form lye.  The lye then has a caustic reaction on the follicle base disabling it.  Although this method is very effective it is also very slow because it takes a considerable amount of time for the necessary reaction to occur. It is not widely used today for that reason. If it is used, it is used in a multi-filament system where many filaments are inserted at once.

Thermolysis or shortwave electrolysis uses high frequency current (alternating current) to produce heat which is used to destroy the follicle base.  There is slow thermolysis and flash thermolysis.  This method is in and out of the follicle very fast and therefore a popular method for clearing larger areas.

Blend is the newest and most advanced method of electrolysis. Blend is a combination of both galvanic and shortwave currents. When the two methods are combined, the heat from the thermolysis process speeds up the chemical reaction produced by the galvanic process. The result is a method that is slightly slower than thermolysis but much quicker than straight electrolysis and is very effective on problem hairs.
